The UK Water Industry Mechanical & Electrical Specifications Initiative
The WIMES (Water Industry Mechanical & Electrical Specifications) Initiative is funded by each Water Co/Authority in the UK and is steered by a Group comprising representatives from each company. The aim is to produce a series of standard specifications, covering a range of M & E equipment, for use across the industry. To date over 20 specifications have been produced covering various pumps, scrapers, screens, protective coatings and electrical components, with the next topics for specification being grit removal equipment and centrifuges.
The Initiative is co-ordinated by The Pump Centre, part of AEA Technology, based in Warrington, Cheshire. All Specifications published to date are available for purchase via The Pump Centre.
Working Groups are formed, again comprising one representative from each Water Co/Authority. Thompson RPM were closely involved with the production WIMES 5.03 (Screens) and WIMES 6.01/6.02 (Screenings Handling Equipment) and have since acted as co-author for WIMES 5.04 (Overflow Screens) and WIMES 2.02 (Grit Removal Equipment).
Thompson RPM can also provide Workshops covering awareness and implementation of various WIMES specifications and can produce Guidance Notes to aid understanding and encourage usage of the specifications. These can be produced to a client's standard format.
